Essential Information

Accommodation:

Community Lodges or Homestays are accommodation types during the Mohare and Khopra Danda Trek that provide basic facilities but are comfortable to stay in. Generally, bathrooms are inside the lodges or homestays but sharing must be done. Pay additional costs for facilities like Wi-Fi, laundry, hot bucket water, and charging devices. Internet and phone networks are mostly stable in the lower regions.

Meals:

3-course full board meals are served during the Mohare and Khopra Danda Trek which are healthy and hygienic. Breakfast and dinner are served from the community lodges/homestays and lunch is served at the stopovers during the trek.

Mohare and Khopra Danda Trek can be done throughout the year in all four seasons: Spring (Mar-May), Autumn (Sep-Nov), Monsoon (Jun-Aug), and Winter (Dec-Feb) Seasons. But, the ideal seasons are Spring (Mar-May) and Autumn (Sep-Nov) as the weather and temperature are stable and offer incredible vistas.

The winter and rainy seasons are riskier to trek due to the unstable weather and temperature, slippery trails, and limited availability of accommodation and services. Still, it is possible to trek with proper planning and preparation.

Mohare and Khopra Danda Trek requires compulsory two permits i.e. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS).

Difficulty:

The Mohare and Khopra Danda is a medium-level trek suitable for trekkers having good physical fitness. The maximum elevation gain during this trek is 4,600 m. Walking daily long hours on the steep ascending and descending rough trails can be tough for some trekkers. Previous experience is a plus point. The Mohare and Khopra Danda trek is moderate. Thus, trekkers having good fitness levels can easily accomplish this trek. Trekkers should be physically and mentally sound to join this trek. Consult with a doctor before undertaking the trek, especially for individuals with pre-existing health conditions. Some physical exercises and mental exercises to carry out before the treks are as follows:

The maximum elevation during the Mohare and Khopra Danda trek is 4,600 m (Khayer Lake). Altitude sickness is common above 2500 m. As the elevation gains, there is a high chance of getting altitude sickness. Thus, acclimatization rest is essential to prevent it. Take an acclimatization rest as suggested in the itinerary during the trek.

Common symptoms of Altitude Sickness 

Headache, nausea, dizziness, uneasiness, appetite, and sleep loss, and on extreme some can experience unconsciousness and hallucination.

Moreover, you should provide your policy details and authorize us to deal directly with your insurance company on your behalf. Please make sure that your insurance will cover helicopter evacuation up to 5650 meters.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01 Kathmandu arrival

Elevation: Kathmandu (1400 m) 30-45 minute hotel drive.

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our team will welcome you at the Kathmandu airport. Then, drive to the hotel for a rest. Later, a tour briefing and necessary packing and arrangements for the tour. Stay overnight.

Day 02 Drive to Pokhara via tourist bus

Elevation: Pokhara (822 m) 7-8 hours’ drive.

Your trekking guide receive you from your hotel in Kathmandu at 6:30 AM and take you to the Tourist Bus Station at Kantipath. At 7:00 AM the bus leaves for Pokhara, exiting the valley of Kathmandu at Thankot and then descending through the winding highway. During the fascinating drive, you make two shortstops for tea and breakfast at some convenient locations. After arriving in Pokhara at around 2:00 PM, you check in at your hotel, freshen up, and have lunch. Walking along the Lakeside would be a good idea for the evening. You are advised to get some good sleep to begin trekking the next day.

Day 03 Drive to Galeshwor, trek to Banskharka

Elevation: Galeshwor (1170 m), Banskharka (1526 m) 4 hours’ drive, 4 hours trek.

Drive to Galeshwor from Pokhara relishing the picturesque views along the way. From Galeshwor, commence the trek on ascending and descending trails. Pass through beautiful settlements and traverse through lush forests. Cross the Kali Gandaki Bridge, and ascend to Mallaj. From there, continue to trek to Banskharka which is Magar inhabited village. Stay overnight at a homestay where trekkers get to learn about the culture and lifestyle of the Magar indigenous.

Day 04 Trek to Nangi

Elevation: Nangi (2300 m) 5-6 hours trek

Pass through the densely forested trails of rhododendrons and pine admiring the stunning Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains in the backdrop. Stop over at Danda Kateri for lunch and a short break. Continue to trek and enter the lovely Magar village of Nangi which is surrounded by lush hills. Interact with the locals, visit the nurseries of medicinal herb plants, and observe the production of handmade paper from locally cultivated plants (Lokta). Stay overnight at a homestay.

Day 05 Trek to Mohare Danda

Elevation: Mohare Danda (3300 m) 6-7 hours trek.

The trek to Mohare Danda is long and passes through high terrains and lush forests. Cross the Him Pal Pass at an elevation of 3,098 m and adore the panoramic mountain ranges. Traverse several bridges adoring the beautiful waterfalls en route. Relish the fabulous landscapes and witness the yaks grazing on the pasture lands. Reach the Mohare Danda which is exactly south of Poon Hill. Transfer to a homestay for rest. In the evening, enjoy the mesmerizing sunset view over the majestic peaks of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, etc. Stay overnight at a homestay.

Day 06 Trek to Swanta

Elevation: Swanta (2214 m) 6-7 hours trek.

Cherishing the beautiful surroundings walk on a comfortable descending trail. Pass the beautiful settlement of Phulbari and trek along the trail of pine and oak forests. Climb slowly to the lovely Phalate village from Dandako Naak. Navigate through the forested trail walking downhill and then climbing uphill. Traverse through the bridge to reach the beautiful Swanta village.

(Note: Swanta can also be reached via the Ghorepani Poon Hill route.)

Day 07 Trek to Dhankharka (Chistibung)

Elevation: Dhankharka (3000 m) 5-6 hours trek.

Head towards Dhankharka also known as Chistibung. Walk past rough off-beat trails admiring mountain vistas, and surroundings. Witness buffalos grazing at pastures and passing that trail to reach Dhankharka for an overnight stay.

Day 08 Trek to Khopra Danda/Ridge

Elevation: Khopra Danda (3660 m) 4-hour trek.

After breakfast, start the trek with an uphill ascend traversing the dense forest. Upon arriving at Khopra Danda, relish the majestic snow-covered mountain views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 09 Acclimatization Day: Khayer Lake Hike and return

Elevation: Khayer Lake (4600 m), Khayer Danda (3660 m) 5-6 hours trek.

Khayer Lake trip is the prime attraction of this Khopra Danda trek. After breakfast, prepare for a hike to mesmerizing Khayer Lake. It is at an elevation of 4,600 m, so maintain your speed and take your time to reach the destination. The trail is rugged and steep but a hike to this holy lake is fully worth it. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Annapurna South. Spend some time around and return to Khopra for an overnight stay.

Day 10 Trek to Dobato

Elevation: Dobato (3425 m) 6-7 hours trek.

Pass through a beautiful forested trail adoring the phenomenal surrounding vistas. Walk past green valleys and trek downhill to Dobato for an overnight stay.

Day 11 Trek to Ghandruk, jeep ride to Pokhara

Elevation: Ghandruk (2012 m) 3 hours trek, 4 hours’ drive.

Enjoy your breakfast and make an easy downhill walk towards the beautiful village of Ghandruk. Walk past forested trails relishing the stunning surroundings. Reach Ghandruk village. Drive to Pokhara via private transport and spend a relaxing time in Pokhara. Enjoy the lakeside tours or nightlife. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 12 Drive to Kathmandu

Elevation: Kathmandu (1400 m) 7-8 hours’ drive.

The standard scheme is to provide you with a tourist coach to Kathmandu. However, if you wish to spend some extra days by yourself in Pokhara, the return ticket can be issued for your desired date. Join the farewell dinner offered by Outdoor Himalayan Treks at an authentic Nepali restaurant where you can enjoy the live cultural show. Back to the hotel, overnight.
