The tale of a 12-Year-Old’s Journey to Everest Base Camp is a fascinating and inspiring one. 12-year-old Tusita Magesh from Kalakshetra Colony embarked on an incredible summer adventure, trekking to Everest Base Camp (EBC) at an impressive altitude of 5,364 meters. With determination and courage, Tusita overcame challenges and embraced breathtaking landscapes on her quest to reach the popular EBC.
In May 2023, Tusita and her group embarked on an exciting trip from Chennai to Kathmandu. They then drove to Ramechhap and boarded a flight from Lukla, known for its terrifying runway. Despite this, Tusita found the take-off thrilling. Their trek began with a four-hour walk to Phakding, the easiest day of their journey. The next day, they arrived at Namche Bazaar, a vibrant hub where they temporarily forgot they were on a trek. Enjoying the cozy tea houses and savoring delicious hot chocolate at a German café added to their delight.
Throughout the trek, Tusita experienced the beauty of the Himalayas while acclimatizing along the way. Tusita and her group caught their first glimpse of Mt. Everest from the Everest peak viewpoint, despite the clouds. The trek continued from Namche to Tengboche, and then to Dingboche, with a rest day for acclimatization. As they faced challenging weather conditions, including rain and snow, they kept on trekking and reached Lobuche.
The final day was dedicated to reaching the Everest Base Camp, leaving their luggage at Gorakshep. Though unable to trek to Kalapatthar initially, a surprise Kalapatthar helicopter ride provided a breathtaking view of Everest. Returning through Lukla, Ramechhap, and Kathmandu, they finally made their way back to Chennai via Mumbai.
Tusita’s adventure rewarded her with unforgettable glimpses of Nepal’s majestic peaks, including Taboche, Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Immersed in the breathtaking landscapes, she was mesmerized by the grandeur of nature that unfolded with each step of her journey.
With perseverance and determination, she reached EBC, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Her journey was filled with breathtaking views, cozy teahouses, and remarkable encounters with Nepal’s majestic peaks. Tusita’s Himalayan adventure is a testament to her resilience, willpower, and passion for exploration. This extraordinary tale is bound to inspire and ignite a sense of wonder in all who hear it.
