Buddha Jayanti is a significant and auspicious festival celebrated by Buddhists worldwide. Buddha Jayanti in Nepal is celebrated grandly as it is the birthplace of Gautama Buddha. The festival is observed in different locations, including Lumbini (Buddha’s birthplace), Bouddhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Stupa, and various Buddhist monasteries and Vihars. Buddha Jayanti takes place on the full moon day of Baisakh (or Jestha) and english month of April/May each year. It is also known as Vesak, Buddha Purnima, and Swaya Punhi (by Newar ethnicity).
Buddha Jayanti is a significant event not only for Nepalese people but also for devotees from around the world. Many individuals also choose to have vegetarian meals on this day to honor the principles of non-violence and compassion.
