Essential Information

Accommodation:

Teahouses or lodges with basic facilities are the means of accommodation during the Salleri to EBC trek. These teahouses are comfortable but must pay additional costs for facilities like Wi-Fi, laundry, hot bucket water, and charging devices. It is a good idea to book ahead during peak season for your convenience. In the higher regions, it is most likely to share rooms. Washrooms are also outside the teahouse or lodge.

Meals:

3-course full board meals are served during the Everest Base Camp via Salleri trek which are healthy and hygienic. Breakfast and dinner are served from the teahouses and lunch is served at the stopovers during the trek. Trekkers can munch on bakery items, continental foods, and coffee in Namche.

Drinking water:

Drinking water during the Everest Base Camp trek via Salleri is easily available. Trekkers can buy Mineral Water, fill tap water, or boiled water at teahouses as their preference. Always carry a water bottle to minimize plastic pollution. Travelers can also use a water purification solution or buy mineral water which costs USD 1-2 per bottle.

The means of transport for Salleri to the EBC trek is a private vehicle. The trek journey starts from Kathmandu to Salleri in a private or shared jeep. Then, ride on a local jeep to Khari Khola. From Khari Khola, the trek begins. We follow the same route to return and drive back to Kathmandu in a private vehicle.

The ideal seasons for the Everest Base Camp Trek via Salleri are Spring (Mar-May) and Autumn (Sep-Nov) as the weather and temperature are stable and offer incredible vistas. The winter and rainy seasons are riskier to trek due to the unstable weather and temperature, slippery trails, and limited availability of accommodation and services. There is a high chance of flight cancellation during monsoon and winter. Still, it is possible to trek with proper planning and preparation.

Day 01 Kathmandu Arrival

Elevation: Kathmandu (1400 m) 30-minute hotel drive.

Our representative from Outdoor Himalayan Treks welcomes you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfers you to your hotel in Thamel or elsewhere in Kathmandu. Freshen up and rest at the hotel. In the evening, introduction with a guide, trek briefing, and check the necessary trekking gear/equipment. We can continue this process the next day if you arrive in Kathmandu late in the evening. Overnight in a hotel.

Day 02 Trek Preparation Day and Kathmandu Sightseeing

The first thing in the morning is to do paperwork after breakfast. We issue necessary trek permits and complete all the arrangements for the next day’s trek. The rest day is free. So, you can do Kathmandu sightseeing. We provide you with a private vehicle and an English-speaking guide (requires additional cost). A guided tour around some famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple. Later, in the evening visit the Thamel market and enjoy some delicious foods. Overnight in a hotel.

Day 03 Kathmandu to Salleri drive (private or sharing jeep)

Elevation: Salleri (2362 m) 8-9 hour drive.

The Salleri to EBC trek commences early in the morning from Kathmandu. It is a long-hour drive so have a proper breakfast. After checking all arrangements along with a guide, drive to Salleri in a private or shared jeep. Admire the beautiful views of the green hills, terraced fields, small villages, flowing rivers, snow-capped mountains, and diverse landscapes on the way. Expect a smooth ride and in some parts bumpy ride which is a sort of adventure and a new experience for foreign travelers. In between the drive, stop for short breaks and lunch or light snacks. Day 04 Local jeep ride to Khari Khola, trek to Paiya

Elevation: Khari Khola (2020 m), Paiya (2730 m) 4-hour jeep drive. 4-5 hours trek. Elevation gain: 710 m

After breakfast, take a local jeep ride to Khari Khola and enjoy the views. After around 4 hours, reach Khari Khola have lunch or light snacks, and take a short rest. The trek to EBC begins with a walk on a descending trail from Khari Khola. Traverse the bridge and ascend to the Bupsa village. The awesome sceneries in the backdrop keep the trekking journey exciting. Walk on the flat trails and pass several villages to reach Paiya. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 05 Trek to Phakding

Elevation: Phakding (2610 m) 6-7 hours trek. Elevation gain: 120 m

Have breakfast and get ready to trek to Phakding. Walk on a descending trail and arrive at Surke. Reach the trail where the actual trek begins i.e. Lukla. Many trekkers arrive at Lukla via flight. Have lunch at Lukla and take a short rest. Head towards Phakding which takes about 4 hours. Walk on a plain trail for a few hours. Later, walk past Dudhkoshi River and walk on the trail with a few ascend and descend and arrive at Phakding. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 06 Trek to Namche Bazaar

Elevation: Namche Bazaar (3440 m) 5-6 hours trek. Elevation gain: 830 m

The trek to the Sherpa capital ‘Namche Bazaar’ is quite interesting. A long-hour trek commences after breakfast. Halfway of the trek is smooth and the other half is slightly tougher. But, enjoying the natural beautiful scenery, trekking can be fun. Before reaching Namche, walk on a steep trail and enter the popular Sherpa town. In the evening, visit the bakery for coffee and delicious bakery items. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 07 Acclimatization day in Namche (3440 m)

Elevation: Namche Bazaar (3440 m) 4-5 hours trek. Elevation gain: 350 m

Acclimatization is very necessary to adapt to the surroundings and prevent altitude sickness. Namche is our first acclimatization rest spot. In the morning, take a short visit to Syangboche and visit around Hotel Everest View. The sight of Everest and other peaks is fascinating. After exploring, back to Namche for lunch. Spend some time at Namche and explore the bazaar (market). In the afternoon, a short trip to the nearby Khumjung village for interested trekkers. Interact with the locals and also visit the Hillary school. After a short exploration, back to Namche for an overnight stay.

Day 08 Trek to Tengboche

Elevation: Tengboche (3867 m) 5-6 hours trek. Elevation gain: 427 m

Adoring the magnificent mountain views on the trail trek towards Tengboche. Pass several beautiful villages and walk on trails with a few descend and descend and a flat trail. Arrive at Tengboche where you witness the best views of Everest, Thamserku, and other Himalayan peaks. Visit the largest Tengboche monastery in the Everest region. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 09 Trek to Dingboche

Elevation: Dingboche (4410 m) 5-6 hours trek. Elevation gain: 543 m

The trek to Dingboche might be a little difficult due to the rise in altitude. So, we walk slowly adoring the picturesque beauty of the region. Walk through the forested trail filled with rhododendron, juniper, birch, and juniper trees. Traverse Imja Khola and ascend to Pangboche. From here, get an awesome view of Mt. Ama Dablam. Keep on walking on an ascending trail and arrive at Dingboche for an overnight stay.

Day 10 Acclimatization Day in Dingboche

Elevation: Dingboche (4410 m) 4-5 hours trek. Elevation gain: 673 m

As the elevation rises, the acclimatization rest is essential to adjust the body to the surroundings. Take a short hike to the Nangsar Tshang Peak (5,083 m) which is full of challenges. Despite challenges, the mesmerizing views of Pumori, Cho Oyu, etc. from the top is rewarding. After exploration, descend slowly to a teahouse for lunch.

A half-day is free to explore on your own. Visit nearby villages, and interact with locals. You can also spend some time alone peacefully at the bank of the Imja River adoring the surrounding beauty. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 11 Trek to Lobuche

Elevation: Lobuche (4940 m) 5-6 hours trek. Elevation gain: 530 m

After breakfast, the trek begins to Lobuche via Pheriche. A pleasant walk on the trail with some beautiful scenery on the trail. Get views of Mt. Pumori, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other peaks. The trail is well-blended with ascending, descending, and flat trails. After walking for about 5-6 hours reach Lobuche. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 12 Trek to Gorakshep, trek to Everest Base Camp & back to Gorakshep

Elevation: Gorakshep (5164 m), Everest Base Camp (5364 m) 8-9 hours trek. Elevation gain/loss: 424 m/200 m

After breakfast, trek to Gorakshep for about 3 hours. Have lunch and take some rest. Then, proceed to trek to the dream destination of many mountain lovers i.e. Everest Base Camp. The highlight of this trek is the sight of the massive Khumjung Glacier on the way. The icefall and glacier look attractive. Upon reaching the base camp, get the close-up mountain vistas of Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, etc. Also, witness the amazing sunset views over these mountains which is fabulous. Take some videos or photos for memory and back to Gorakshep for an overnight stay.

Day 13 Trek to Kalapatthar via Gorakshep, and trek back to Pheriche

Elevation: Kalapatthar (5644.5 m), Pheriche (4371 m) 7-8 hours trek. Elevation gain/loss: 480.5 m/1273.5 m

Wake up early in the morning and hike for about 2 hours to the Kalapatthar viewpoint. A dream come true moment for travelers/trekkers to get a close-up Mount Everest view including Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Ama Dablam, and Cho-Oyu adjacent to it. When the sunrays fall over Everest and other peaks, that moment is very wonderful and a memory to cherish forever. Don’t forget to capture these moments and spend some time adoring the beauty of the Himalayan ranges. Descend to Gorakshep for lunch. Trek back to Pheriche for an overnight stay.

Day 14 Trek to Tengboche

Elevation: Tengboche (3867 m) 7-hour trek. Elevation loss: 504 m

The elevation is declining and makes walking on the trail easier compared to previous days. Walk on the descending trail and a short ascend to Pangboche. From there, cross a bridge and a steep ascend walk to reach Tengboche. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 15 Trek to Monjo

Elevation: Monjo (2835 m) 6-7 hour trek. Elevation loss: 1032 m

Walk on the trail mixed with a flat and steep trail towards Monjo. Trek in the vicinity of the Sagarmatha National Park and get some sights of diverse flora and if lucky some animals as well. The surrounding mountain views add beauty while walking in the natural greenery trail of the national park. Walk for about 6-7 hours and reach Monjo for an overnight stay.

Day 16 Trek to Lukla

Elevation: Lukla (2860 m) 2-3 hour trek. Elevation gain: 25 m

The short trek begins toward Lukla after breakfast. Mostly walk on the descending trail and a short ascend before reaching Lukla. It takes about 2-3 hours to reach Lukla. Just enjoy the scenery with a background of towering mountains while trekking. Spend the rest of the day taking a rest and exploring the surrounding places. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 17 Trek down to Khari Khola

Elevation: Khari Khola (2020 m) 4-5 hour trek. Elevation loss: 840 m

Day 18 Drive to Salleri

Elevation: Salleri (2362 m) 4-5 hours’ drive.

This is our all-in-all drive trek from Salleri to EBC and back to Salleri. The trek duration is long but a unique experience for all travelers taking a new route to trek to EBC. From Khari Khola, drive back to Salleri which takes about 4-5 hours. Enjoy a jeep ride viewing the natural scenery on the way. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 19 Drive to Kathmandu

Elevation: Kathmandu (1400 m) 8-9 hours’ drive.

A long hour’s drive awaits us. After breakfast, head towards Kathmandu which takes about 8-9 hours in a private jeep. After a long trek, enjoy a comfortable ride and adore the scenic views on the way back. Arrive at Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel for much-needed rest. In the evening, join us for a farewell dinner with a live cultural show and meals of your preference. Overnight in a hotel.
