Managing Director
Outdoor Himalayan Treks is chaired by its founder Mr. Rajendra Prasad Sapkota, the visionary behind the unparalleled success of the company ever since its inception in 2004. Popular among his clients and friends by his nickname Raj, he is a highly acclaimed professional in the tourism fraternity.
A self-made entrepreneur, a successful businessman, a caring and responsible family person, a selfless social worker, and a committed advocate of Private Public Partnership (PPP), Raj has proved his capabilities in a myriad of roles.
How he worked his way up to his present status today is in itself quite an inspiring story. Believe it or not, he had started his career as a porter, and that too, when he was still a teenager. Having trekked through all popular trekking routes several times while working as a guide, he knows the mountains, valleys, steep slopes, passes, and ridges very well. Or shall we say the mountains know him even better!
In addition to his trekking agency, Raj also decided to try his luck in the hospitality business – a decision that didn’t take very long to prove right. He is the founder and a member of the board of directors at Hotel Friends Home (since 2013), Hotel Mums Home (since 2014) and Tibet Peace Inn (since 2015).
Raj was appointed as an Executive Member of Nepal Tourism Board in 2015, whereupon, he devoted himself to the various missions undertaken by the board for 3 years, emphasizing on the importance of PPP (private public partnership) for sustainable growth of the overall tourism industry of Nepal during his tenure. He was also actively involved in the promotion of the Ghumphir 2073 Campaign, both in Nepal and abroad.
Raj has visited several countries during his official trips as well as business and family vacations. His favorite destinations in Europe include United Kingdom, The Netherdlands, Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, France, Austria, and Czech Republic. He has attended several travel trade fairs in Israel and UAE. Likewise, he has visited a number of APAC countries including Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, etc.
No wonder, he has been to most of the trekking destinations in Nepal including Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, Manaslu etc. as a trekking guide. In the later years of his career, he also got the opportunity to explore Rara Lake, Bardia National Park, Lumbini, Mustang, Khaptad, Pathivara.
His experience and knowledge will certainly be a big asset when it comes to finding the most appropriate trekking route to suit your timing, budget, health condition etc. By the virtue of his humility and willingness to share his knowledge and experience and his readiness to help others, making friends with almost every new person he meets is not a new thing for him. No matter what heights of success he climbs up to, you will always find him a very down-to-earth person, which is one of his finest qualities.
