Bhutan is a nation with high mountains of the eastern Himalayas. Especially the northern ends of the country are dominated by high mountain ranges. The highest peak of Bhutan is Mount Gangkhar Puensum at 7570 meters of elevation. Several big rivers drain these mountains the biggest of which are Manas, Mo Chhu, and Jaldhaka, all merging to the Brahmaputra River.
Over 75% of the total land in Bhutan is covered by green forest. This allows the country to have a rich and diverse ecosystem supporting several species of flora and fauna. Due to this Bhutan has been able to claim in the world of being the only existing ‘Carbon-negative nation’. Similarly, Bhutan has been considered as one of the ten global environmental hotspots.
