Annapurna region gets its name from Annapurna, which is a huge massif lying in north-central Nepal. To its east flows the Marsyangdi River, whereas the Kali Gandaki River marks its western border. The massif contains the world’s tenth tallest peak, the Annapurna I, and dozens of peaks that go over 6,000 meters. As you start your Annapurna treks from Pokhara and move onwards, you will experience a surprising diversity of nature, fabulous scenery, and an equally diverse culture. This region is home to many ethnicities in Nepal. The culture and customs here can vary from village to village. Annapurna Conservation Area, the largest protected area of Nepal, was established by the government to protect the floral, and faunal diversity and to better the livelihood of the people of the area.
