Nepal Tourism Board announced the ‘Mundhum Trail Visit Year 2025’ to promote tourism in eastern Nepal. As we all know, Nepal is worldwide renowned for trekking. In 2018, January the Mundhum/Mundum trek trail came into operation. Since then the locals including the government have been working hard to promote this trail. The holy scripture of Kirat ethnicities is called ‘Mundhum’ and since this trek trail is sacred they named it ‘Mundhum Trail’. The trekking trail is a perfect blend of ancient culture and beautiful nature.
The Mundhum trail connects the districts of Bhojpur, Khotang, Sankhuwasabha, and Solukhumbu districts in Koshi Province. The prime highlight of this trail is that it has not been explored more and is pristine. Also, the trek routes are inhabited by Kirat Indigenous which offers great opportunities for visitors to witness their culture, tradition, and lifestyle.
The President of Maiyung Temke Salpa Silichung Tourism Promotion Centre stated that the preparation for the Mundhum Trail Visit Year 2025 is in progress. They are prioritizing improving facilities like better accommodation, drinking water, toilets, and rest areas. They aim to attract at least 100,000 tourists including both domestic and international visitors.
The president further shared the plans for setting up an Information and Rescue Centre to enhance trail facilities. If all things go as planned, they are also willing to organize local festivals and fairs such as Sakela Ubhauli and Udhauli, etc. They believe this will economically benefit the locals. During the Mundhum Trail Visit Year 2025, the prime attractions include the region’s rich culture through local festivals, traditional shed stays, oranges, shamans, and Rudraksha.
Former Tourism Minister Sudan Kirati highlighted that the Mundhum Trail has great cultural significance. This type of tourism will promote the region’s beauty along with its Indigenous and traditional cultures. Likewise, Former Minister Shankar Koirala pointed out that Mundhum Trail as a new and unique destination will add a new aspect to promoting Koshi Province’s tourism.
The Chairman of the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) focused on the contribution of the locals and authorities in developing and conserving the trail for the Mundhum trail’s better promotion.
