A special announcement by the Nepal Government in the sector of Nepal Tourism, Special Tourism Year 2025 and Visit Nepal Decade. To promote tourism and attract global visitors, the Nepal government has declared the Nepali year 2080 B.S. as the ‘Visit Nepal Decade’ and designated the year 2025 AD as a ‘Special Tourism Year’. These initiatives are a part of FY 2080/81 policies and programs addressed by President Ramchandra Paudel in the federal parliament.
Nepal’s Government is keenly working to revitalize the tourism sector and re-establish Nepal as a popular tourist destination post-Covid-19 pandemic. Visit Nepal 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic. As of 2023, the tourism sector in Nepal is slowly rising. The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) 2023 statistics reveal a remarkable milestone of over 3 lakh foreign travelers traveling to Nepal only in the first four months. The abundant number of travelers traveling to Nepal is a good indication.
The announcement of the Visit Nepal Decade and Special Tourism Year 2025 was made with the aspiring target of attracting over 2.5 million foreign tourists by 2025. Nepal’s Government further commits to promoting tourism by highlighting Nepal’s ancient culture and uniqueness to the world.
Special Tourism Year 2025 and Visit Nepal Decade, some promises or commitments have been made for promoting tourism under FY 2080/81 policies and programs:
Emphasis on the revision of tourism-related laws and making sure to keep it up-to-date. This revision aims to facilitate the industry’s smooth functioning and expansion.
A strong focus on promoting tourist destinations and developing the necessary infrastructure to enhance the traveler experience.
Additionally, the government plans to identify new tourist destinations across all 7 provinces and remodel them into cultural villages that showcase their unique culture, tradition, and heritage.
Government plans for brief research to open mountains for climbing/expedition for adventure travelers ensuring its safety and enhancing the safety measures for a better experience for the travelers.
To develop the scope of the tourism industry, the government plans to introduce the concept of film tourism.
The government aims to invite renowned personalities to endorse Nepal’s tourism on a global scale.
Moreover, an introduction of a special appreciation called the ‘Sagarmatha Special Honour’ which will be awarded to foreign nationals making noteworthy contributions to the promotion of Nepal and its cultural values internationally.
The government’s policies and programs also focus on the importance of strictly following and maintaining air safety standards.
The priority is given to the development of Pashupati and Lumbini as religious and spiritual study centers.
Nepal is committed to elevating its tourism sector by attracting a larger number of visitors. For this purpose, there is a series of initiatives and plans in place. Nepal is re-establishing itself as a leading destination around the globe where visitors can get unique cultural experiences, sight of towering mountains, warm hospitality, a safe environment, and abundant natural beauty.
