Nepal has numerous trekking destinations and many new trekking destinations are also opened. Mundhum Trek is one of the newly opened treks in eastern Nepal that came into operation in January 2018. ‘Mundhum’ is the holy scripture of Kirat ethnicities. Mundhum Trek is the perfect combination of culture and nature. This trekking trail lies on the border of the Khotang and Bhojpur districts. This trek passes through the ethnic villages of the Kirat natives which attracts travelers with the rich biodiversity and natural beauty of the region.

The highest point during this Mundhum Trek is the viewpoint of Silchung Peak at an elevation of 4,153 m. Pass through the beautiful settlements of Chakewa, Salpa Bhanjyang, Silichung, and Hanspokhari. Immerse in the unique culture of Kirat, Rai, and the Limbu ethnicities. This trekking trail takes travelers to the dense forested trail including numerous species of Rhododendrons, Chestnuts, and different herbs during Spring seasons. In this trek, adore the awesome panoramic views of 5 eight-thousanders, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for this Mundhum Trek.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, an Outdoor Himalayan Treks representative welcomes you and transfers you to the hotel in Thamel. After refreshments, if time permits, you can visit Kathmandu Durbar Square or Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple). Meet with your guide, discuss your plans, and receive the documents. Overnight in a hotel.


9 hrs drive Teahouse

The trek to Mundhum begins with a drive to Diktel from Kathmandu. Enjoying the scenic landscapes, hills, blue mountains, small settlements, flowing rivers, and terraced farms and taking short lunch and snack breaks reach Diktel.


5-6 hrs drive Teahouse

Drive to Chakewa after breakfast which takes about 5-6 hours. Pass through the villages of Dorap Chiuri Danda and Dobela enjoying the beautiful surrounding views.


5-7 hrs Teahouse

Pass through the trail traversing Maluwa and Dalsinga Pass admiring the wonderful view of Merung Danda. En route, get a sight of authentic villages and the local culture and lifestyle of the natives.

The trail is mostly ascending which is slightly challenging but the beautiful vegetation and mountain views scenery compensate for all. Cross small streams, and Mani walls, and get a sight of several prayer flags around Mani walls. Get welcomed with the stunning views of snow-covered mountains upon reaching Maiyung.


4-6 hrs Teahouse

Traverse the beautiful settlements of Satdobato, Hyakule, and Laure Bine. Then, pass through the forested trail enjoying the natural beauty of the region, and arrive at Rawadhap.

Pass through the Mani wall which is engraved with sacred Tibetan, Kirati, and Buddhist script. Traverse the beautiful Mani of Handi Lake and Mani of Salpa Pass to reach Salpa Pokhari. The surrounding virgin lakes and snowy mountains in the backdrop are rewarding during this trek.


5-6 hrs Teahouse

Silchung Peak at an elevation of 4,153 m is the highest viewpoint of this trek. Exploring this viewpoint is a blend of adventure and nature. Ascending to the viewpoint is demanding, but slowly we can get there. Make sure to drink plenty of water, and maintain the speed to reach the top. The surrounding views include snow-covered peaks such as Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Cho Oyu which is phenomenal. Slowly descend after the exploration and back to Salpa for an overnight stay.


4-6 hrs Teahouse

Pass through several rivers on the way to Hyakule relishing the green landscapes and mountain views. Reach Hyakule, tour the villages, and stay overnight.

Adoring the surrounding Himalayan vistas trek towards Hanspokhari Valley. The natural beauty of the surroundings is such captivating that a 5-6 hour trek is memorable.


4-6 hrs Teahouse/Hotel

Pass through forested trails which consist of several ups and downs adoring the surrounding natural beauty. Admire the mountain views, hillside farmland, and traditional villages en route. Arrive at Bhojpur for an overnight stay.


8-9 hrs drive Hotel

An amazing Mundhum Treks come to an end. It’s time to drive back to Kathmandu. Enjoying the stunning landscapes and scenery of green hills, terraced fields, local farms, and flowing rivers return to the hotel.


Airport transfer will be provided on your required time, but if you intend to extend your stay in Kathmandu we will arrange the airport transfer on your required day. Safe Travels.

  • Accommodation: Basic teahouse accommodation during the trek (Toilet and bathroom will be outside of the room; Deluxe accommodation for 2 nights in Kathmandu on a shared basis.
  • Meals: 3 meals per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner. which you can choose from the menu) during the trek; breakfast in Kathmandu.
  • Transportation: Airport - hotel - airport transfers by private transfer, Kathmandu to Diktel, and Bhojpur to Kathmandu by bus.
  • Equipment/Accessories: If required, we are happy to provide you with a down jacket and sleeping bags (Which you can refund us after the trek), a first-aid kit, a water purifying solution (iodine-based)
  • Human resource: A professional and experienced trekking guide (English-speaking); a porter per two trekkers (carrying up to 25 kg); all the expenses for the guide and porter(s) are covered (wages, accommodation, meals, transportation, insurance, etc.)
  • Tax/Service Charge: All applicable taxes, service charges, or fees. We hereby guarantee you no 'hidden charges' afterward.
  • Complimentary: Farewell dinner in Kathmandu (authentic Nepalese cuisines with a live cultural show)
  • Emergency Rescue Service: Should any emergency arise during your trek, we will provide prompt and professional rescue and medical services. However, you must be already insured for such emergencies, and your insurance policy must cover helicopter evacuation (Kindly make sure that the policy covers until 4500 Mtrs). Moreover, you should provide your policy details and authorize us to deal directly with your insurance company on your behalf.

CANCELLATION

  • Free cancellation up to 60 days prior departure
  • 30% of the total cost of the trip will be charged if cancelled between 60 to 30 days prior to departure date
  • 60% of total cost of the trip will be charged if cancelled in between 30 to 14 days prior to departure date. 
  • No refund will be provided if cancelled within 14 days prior of departure date.
  • No refunded will be provided if the guest will not show up. 
  • Regrettably, in case where the trek/tour can not be completed due to customer's own problem or sickness or unfavourable weather there will be no refund. 
  • If the trekking/tour is extended more than given itinerary extra charge will be applied accordingly 
  • If the agreed trip can not be organised due to bad weather or any unforeseen events, similar trip will be organised (in the mutual understanding with the travellers)
