Chinese paraglider Li Shangtao achieved a remarkable feat by paragliding on the world’s top mountain Mt. Everest (8848.86m). Chinese paraglide on Everest Honored for his achievement by Babu Adventure Paragliding, Seven Summit Treks, and NBM Travel Company on August 30, 2023. Earlier Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Sudan Kirati also honored the Chinese paraglider Li Shangtao.
On May 18, 2023, a Chinese paraglider Li Shangtao paraglided from 8,000 m above sea level to the base camp. During the honoring event, the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation emphasized the new tourism opportunities in Nepal with the successful attempt of paragliding from Everest. He highlighted Nepal’s tourism potential and the global promotion needed for economic benefits. He added that Nepal supports paragliding education in schools for sector growth.
During the honoring event, Lee San Tao recalled his first paragliding in Pokhara in 2015. Since then, he dreamed of paragliding from Everest. To make his dream come true, he took a paragliding course in 2016. Later, he paraglided over mountains of 5000, 6000, and 7000 meters in China. Then, a desire to paraglide over Everest intensified, and ultimately, he achieved it by paragliding from Everest.
A senior tourism entrepreneur considers Nepal’s tourism can help the country develop by adding new adventures for tourists to enjoy. According to him, In terms of tourism, Nepal is an excellent country. If tourism in Nepal declines, global tourism will also decline.
The head of Seven Summit Treks and a tourism expert mentioned that Nepal’s government should encourage paragliding. He said people like San Tao from China, who know about paragliding in the Himalayas, can help a lot. He also said Nepal’s tourism is getting better after COVID-19 and talked about making paragliding on Everest even better.
