Trip to the Greenest Countryside

9 Mar 2018 Outdoor Himalayan

Blog-Trip to the Greenest Countryside. The sky above the city had a deep shade of blue that looked almost like black. Once again it seemed like Kathmandu was about to get heavy rainfall. The weather information board across the street showed wind speed at 11.70 km/hr.

Had it not been for Friday we would have packed our bags and called it a day. But it was Friday and Fridays are fun! Fridays are the best part of a job. For workers in almost all cultures of the world, Fridays are considered a sanctum. In-office cubicles around the world, colleagues, and friends rapidly and quietly make a plan for the evening – some communicating through SMS, others through email, and the rest through shared files scattered somewhere in the cloud. After all, everybody needs to welcome the weekend!

Here in our office, too, we were deciding to travel a little closer to nature this Friday – to go mingle in the green hue of Godavari. Godavari is an outskirt of Kathmandu city. On any given day in Godavari, you will hear not a single horn but thousands of birds minding their business. It is remarkable to note that more than two hundred and fifty species of birds are found in Godavari. The green there is so thick that you will always want to spend one more hour amid herbs, trees, and the natural springs of water. Always one more hour!

On the one hand, the weather was not appealing to any kind of travel and on the other hand, we wanted to go there and spend some time in the quiet. Decisions are never easy to make and we were facing the same situation – to go or not to go – that was the issue! If we went, we would freshen up the mind and the soul – ready for the week ahead. We would get to spend some time amid varieties of butterflies and orchids. We would even get to see some woodpeckers, owlets, babblers, siskins, bulbuls, robins, and eagles. But only if we went!

Suddenly the telephone rang; our boss was on the other end. He asked if we could accompany him to a resort in Godavari. He was going there for a meeting until dinner and on the way, he wanted to discuss about integrated content management systems and payment gateways.

After a brief pause, we agreed. Fifteen minutes later we were happily driving away toward the greenest countryside.
